First of all, I'd like to thank profusely all those who made a donation. The grand total now stands at £130!
As promised, for your amusement/horror, a time lapse video of my progress - a frame every day from 1st to 30th November.

You can see the original video in Quicktime format - the quality is a little better than the embedded Flickr video.

I'm sure many of you will have seen this already, but for those who haven't:

Star Trek meets Star Wars [Youtube link]. Let it play through, it has some... amusing surprises.

Because a lot of you won't have seen my progress when it occasionally appears on Facebook, here for your delectation is a picture of my moustache effort so far:

Many thanks to those who have donated to team OII so far. We have now raised over 100 pounds between us. Just four more days to go...

So apparently you can do stoppies in a Smart Fortwo. OK, so it has a Hayabusa engine and probably some scary brake mods. But I want one!

Crazy Czechs Build Tatra V8-Powered Trabant Drift Car, Will Sell It To You!

Not quite mad enough to qualify for FWTD, you say?
It has *five pedals*!

My Royal Enfield dealer drives a Trabant as his daily driver (i.e. when something won't fit in the sidecar). I occasionally get tempted. If only I had the room...

Not just a fun way to die but also... balls of steel. Just wow.

With less than a mile left in a stage of the Ralley de Serrians in France, the throttle cable in our hero's Renault finally gives up the ghost. Does he give up? No! Does the team try to push their way to the finish? Hell no! The driver tells his co-pilot to man the wheel while he hops into the engine bay, pulls the hood over himself and then manually controls the throttle cable bracket to a heroic finish. The picture above speaks for itself, but the video after the jump tells the whole tale.

Edit: more photos here.
Love their horn, too (see Flash video embedded in the linked page).

I'm sure you'll agree my comedy 'tache is coming along nicely...

Nearly halfway there!

Don't forget to donate to team OII! :-)

Day 1

brrm: (movember)
Well, here we go. I've managed to recruit Adham and Tim at work into "team OII". We will be Growing laughable facial hair, all in the name of charity. I won't be posting a picture every day, but I do hope to take one per day, and produce a time lapse for the end.

This post has the details for donation, should you wish to. Many many thanks to those who have already done so!

One of the best Fun Ways To Die yet:

In what is possibly simultaneously one of my best and worst ideas, I shall be participating next month in Movember.

Precis: Art grows, or attempts to grow, a moustache in the name of charidee. Hardly a 10km run, but hey, why not?

You can donate to my Mo by either:

1. Clicking this link https://www.movember.com/uk/donate/donate-details.php?action=sponsorlink®o=1457126&country=uk and donating online using your credit card or PayPal account, or

2. Writing a cheque payable to ‘The Prostate Cancer Charity Re: Movember', referencing my Registration Number 1457126 and mailing it to:
The Prostate Cancer Charity
First Floor Cambridge House
100 Cambridge Grove
Hammersmith
London W6 OLE

or

3. Giving me cold hard cash/cheque, which I can then send in with a donation form.

The money raised by Movember is used to raise awareness of men's health issues and donated to The Prostate Cancer Charity which will have an enormous impact on many men's lives and the awareness will help us to fight prostate cancer on every front - through research, support, information and campaigning.

Or, you can do nothing, but have a good laugh at the progress pictures I shall be posting. :-)

I remember a couple of these, I must have been about 4 or 5 when I saw them.

Meandering through Youtube tonight, I've happened upon quite a few silly instruments [Youtube link].

But I think this one takes the biscuit:

Not exactly a Fun Way To Die, since it looks pretty well constructed, but...

Sometimes I think genius is wasted. Or perhaps not.
I give you the lovechild of a Subaru and a VW Beetle. Bonus points for using two different flat-four engined cars...

One final photo from the Hockenheim Classic set - taken by a photo agency:

I have an app ('Exposure') for my iPhone which uses the GPS and Flickr to show me photos on Flickr taken near my current location. I fired it up just now, and it showed me this photo of Ceefer and said it was 9.7m from me. Which is about the distance the real Ceefer was from me. :-)

Sadly there's no video to go with this one, but I think it qualifies as a fun way to die:

Six wheeled 180BHP Yamaha R1-powered kart. Seller says "I do not suggest anyone ride this kart"...

I have been busy uploading lots of photos.
Cut for some (small) photos )

Clicking through to any of these pictures will let you browse around in the appropriate set...

Just a quick update to say I went on the Hockenheim race track in the MG today, and survived! Germany is lovely as ever. Off to dinner in Waldhilsbach (village where I used to live) this evening, and then we're setting off for Cambridge tomorrow morning at 10am-ish. The cup in the picture is for the car that traveled the furthest distance to get to the event - in our case, 650-odd miles!
More photos to follow on Flickr of course, and there may be the odd movie. ;-)
brrm: (Default)
Setting off for Heidelberg in about 20 minutes. It should take us about 12 hours door to door. Keep an eye on my Flickr stream for photographic updates...
