The Mothers of Invention
Nov. 16th, 2007 05:47 pmSomeone of my acquaintance was interested in this, I'm sure, but I can't for the life of me remember who it was. So I'll post it here, and hopefully whoever it was will notice. :)
For some time, I've wanted a telltale indicator to reassure me that the rear (hub dynamo-powered) light on my bicycle is still working. I thought an optical networking cable would be cunning, but the portion of the end that lit up turned out to be tiny. However, it turns out that an SPDIF (optical hi-fi link) cable is perfect for the job. The light at the end of the cable is around 1mm in diameter, and is perfectly visible at night.
Now to go drilling holes into the rear light and applying epoxy glue, so that I don't need to gaffer-tape the end of the fibre optic cable to the light.
Preliminary Pictures:
Oh yeah, patents pending, etc ;-)
