Today, I have mostly been imac-wrangling. Last night, I took it upon myself to upgrade Missing from OS X 10.1 to 10.2. This proved unwise, as it ended up with a kernel panic on boot - "Unable to find driver for this platform - "iMac"". Finally managed to resolve this by wiping the OSX partition and freshly installing 10.2 onto it. This, however, wiped my ADSL installation, which resisted all attempts to resurrect it. So, it's off to Mailbox tech support, which brings me to the following:

I would just like to take this opportunity to sing the praises of Mailbox Internet, who have been providing me with ADSL for over a year. They seem reliable (I've had very few outages, they actually know what rDNS is for and let me set it for my IP), they let me know of planned outages via e-mail, and their tech support line is lovely - answers in a couple of rings, know what they're talking about, and phone back when necessary. Additionally, having acknowledged that the OS X support for the Alcatel Speedtouch USB is somewhat flaky, they offered to send me a Fujitsu modem, or maybe split the cost of a proper router with me. They've even been *dropping* their prices (OK, because BT did, but hey).

I need a haircut.
