Even though I have only got halfway through Shopped, my resolution is this:

To use the supermarkets less, and local shops/markets more. I shall report back on whether the obsession of the supermarkets with visual quality of food over taste is indeed true.

Vote with your feet, and vote now, before they go out of business (was my thinking).
There was a succinct quote on Radio 4 over the holiday about going to the supermarkets while bemoaning the fate of the poor independent shops, but I can't remember it. :)

The most noticable difference is the meat, especially bacon. The supermarkets inject water to bulk up the meat, which wrecks the way it cooks.

And supermarket bread is disgusting.

  • This Thursday, Gloucester Green, I go to this one every time

  • Every Sunday, Wolvercote, never been, cos of churchy things, but it's survived a while, so I suspect it's pretty good.

You know it makes sense.
