I'm put in mind of that Two Ronnies joke about the man with the E-type combine harvester.

Now I could go for that with something like an Allegro or a Marina; but it's sacrilege with an MGB GT!

Ironically, those're probably rarer than MGBs - did I link to the Ital on ebay the other day with 300 miles on the clock? Didn't make reserve at £4800, which is more than I paid for my BGT!

I think it would have been lucky to make a reserve of £480, notwithstanding it having just 300 miles on the clock and being a short hop up the A40 from you. Still, I get the feeling history will come full circle and Marinas/Allegros/Princesses will probably be looked on as minor classics in about ten years' time (cf. 1100s/Maxis/1800s now).

Oh, and if it makes you happier, my 'trained' eye thinks that GT looks like a fibreglass replica, actually ;-)
Although the DVLA thinks it's an MG. *shrug*. It drove off before I could get a closer look at it.

Fibreglass: there's something about the sweep and edge of the wheel arch, I think?

The wheel arches are definitely non-standard - compare with mine. But that's quite easy to modify if you are handy with welding. What made me suspicious was how the body looks underneath the tail lights - there is normally a step there for the bumper. And the seams between panels have all been filled. But the apparently MG dashboard inside and the fact that the DVLA think it is an MG means it probably is (was?) real. The DVLA requires retention of I think two out of (engine, body, suspension) in order for a car not to have to be engineer-inspected and get Q-plates.
