Dismembered MG photos here

Went to pay my MG a visit at Manor Garage this evening. Richard's first task was to strip off panels to investigate the situation underneath. Not nearly as bad as it could have been - the sills were fine right up to about 6" from the rear wheelarch. So that side (which was damaged in the accident) will be getting a new lower wing, wheelarch bucket, passenger door and repair to the sill. The base of the windscreen pillar is also a bit on the rusty side, but that will be covered by the insurance. The driver's side is another matter, as that cannot be paid for by the insurance (ditto some of the welding and the wheelarch liner on the passenger side). Again, the ideal solution would be a lower wing and sill repair, as well as a patch near the front of the car to remedy some corrosion.

Basically this is a case of "might as well do it now", especially as the insurance paying for some of the work means there are some savings to be made. Also, quite a bit of it is work that will probably need to be done to pass the next MOT, so I guess I bite the billet and have it all done. :)

Also, we will probably dispense with the black-painted "anti-stonechip" line running the length of the bottom of the car, and have it match the rest of the car. The line in question can be seen somewhat unflatteringly in this photo. And possibly the crushed silencer box will be replaced with a slightly more slender freer-flowing silencer box. *cough* :)

Other than that, the car is in pretty good structural shape. The headlamp surrounds are a bit rusty, but they are neither an MOT item, nor urgent. A project for another day. :)

I'd also like to sing the praises of Richard at Manor Garage. He most kindly met me after hours today so I could get there after work. He is very proud of his work, and a visit is always an education in car restoration as one gets the opportunity to see the other cars being worked on.
